I'm new to all this...so please be gentle..... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Anyhow, I'm still confused regarding the uPnP software thing...

I understand its attempting to be a standard backend software solution for serving up the media..but its not always obvious what appliance / software combos will or will not work.

So my question is: what other software solutions are people using besides the philip's supplied? I've seen the post here about the next version of Nero...But I am mainly interested in getting APE or FLAC support. Which makes me think I want something like slimserver, that will transcode to PCM or WAV for devices that won't support lossless codecs natively.

So does any of this make sense?

Thanks!

i don't know slimserver. Can you maybe give the url where i can find it?
The only upnp media server, i know, that supports transcoding is Windows media connect (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/devices/wmconnect/default.aspx). It transcodes wma audio files to pcm. On this moment the streamium doesn't support this, but i think they will in the next update. So if slimserver has a simelar way of transcoding and passing the url of the transcoded file, then it's just a matter of time (again waiting for the next update)

slimserver is the open source software behind the squeezebox.
