I don't quite a agree.
My bet is that if they have signed an agreement with MS to support Windows Media protocols my bet is that there will be restrictions in that agreement not to support certain things such as unencrypted MPEG2.
Microsoft are so keen on the DRM technology and right management which is why you can't play an normal unencrypted MPEG2 with Windows Media Player. If that happened to the Streamium nothing in my library (which is 100% legal and I have all the physical disks and I never ever share them online) would not be able to be played.
Anywa, what is the point of WMA??? Apart from playing low-res music videos from the internet I don't see why we would need support until you start talking about DRM and control of content.

I might add that to get WMA or even MPEG4 part 10 encoded videos to be the same quality as MPEG2 you need a super specialised hardware encoder. It will be half the size but video is all about quality especially when you start displaying on a 32"+ progressive scan LCD TV.
