Hi
Just bought this unit today, my gripes with it are the same as many of the people on amazon

(1) deleting albums will be a real pain when the hard drive has a lot of data on it, is there any way of doing this faster? I assume I could take the hard drive out and connect it to a caddy if it wasn't for the warrenty, i.e. its fat32 or ntfs (probably fat32)

(2) Can I copy mp3 from the pc to the unit without it being plugged directly in? i.e. via the wireless or via USB. It seems the only realistic way I can do this is by burning to a CDRW which is feasible but a bit of a pain

£150 in asda for this at the mo :-)

Don't suppose theres a backdoor to the harddrive, some
way of accessing it as a NAS or similiar? Samba?
Silly question but once you've deleted a folder then that
space is free'd up immeadiately?
When the warrenty does expire, if I was to fit a bigger hard drive in it would it work?

Hi !

#1: You can do it slightly easier with the WADM (or my WACHandler) software. The filesystem is Linux Ext3 IIRC. No ugly M$ filesystems here /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

#2: You can transfer tracks to a WAC either via the wired or the Wireless Ethernet (The WiFi is faster than the cable interface). You can also transfer tracks by burning them (as MP3/WMA or a s a"real" Audio CD) on a CD and then copy them that way.

No, there's no "backdoor" except the http interface (http://x.y.z.w/media). You can download files from the WAC to your PC only with my WACHandler (it is not supported by the WADM software from Philips).

The space after deleting track(s) is freed up when the database is being purged. It can take some minutes in the worst case.

Yes, you can crack the WAC open and replace the harddisk with a bigger one. There are hardcoded limits on the maximum amount of tracks (30000, I think) though.
This forum contains several threads about replacing the harddisk.

Cheers !

Hi Tias,

I couldn't find a dedicated forum topic for your excellent WACHandler, so forgive me if I hijack this one. I've only been using it 1 day, but I have a couple of questions/suggestions ...

i) Is it possible to drag'n'drop whole albums (or even all albums for a particular artist) from PC pane to WAC pane? For me this is the most common task, but it doesn't seem to be supported (instead requiring dragging from Windows Explorer). I tried dragging all the tracks together, from a particular album, but wierd things happened (the tracks were added to an existing album already on the WAC, and the PC tracks temporarily changed name to 0.mp3)

ii) Having the remote control ability to play a track on the WAC from the PC is really clever, but is it also possible to pause/stop it too? As far as I can tell, it's only possible to stop it by pressing the stop button on the WAC.

Thanks a lot for a great piece of software. Way better than the Philips effort. But still room for improvement IMHO ;-)

Cheers.

Try the "WACHandler now released" thread in the WAC700 topic.

It should work, at least from Windows Explorer,. The PC-tracks pane is rather new and undeveloped. I know that there still are some issues with it.

Yes, I know. This is due to the different implementations of the UPnP protocols in the different WACS's out there. I am planning a lot of improvements of this function in version 3 of WACHandler.

Yes, there's plenty of stuff that needs to be improved, I totally agree about that /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Tias, thanks.

Yes, it works perfectly from Windows Explorer. I was just hoping it might also be possible direct from the PC pane (only because it seems to me one of the more common tasks you'd want to perform).

Really looking forward to v3 - it's great to hear that you're still working on this thing. Thanks!!
